Deep drawing of
stainless steel

(

Deep-drawn stainless steel,
from 0.2 to 2 mm

Emprotec has been deep-drawing stainless steel to drawing for more than 35 years: connector housings, solenoid valve sleeves and bodies, cups, caps, sensor protection covers, from 0.2 to 2 mm thick.

Stainless steel hardens as it is deformed (work hardening): it does not draw like mild steel. Our multi-stage processes on transfer presses are designed for it, and produce seamless, leak-tight, corrosion-resistant parts.

We also deep-draw stainless steel for crimp ferrules, aerospace and defence and heavy trucks.

Deep drawing stainless steel, from your drawing to series production

Stainless steel behaves in its own way under the press. Our method:

1

Drawing review : required corrosion resistance, leak-tightness and surface finish.

2

Multi-stage process : number of draws calculated to limit work hardening.

3

Dedicated tool : designed and built in our workshop.

4

Deep drawing : on transfer presses, in series.

5

Inspection : three-dimensional measurement, visual checks, first article inspection report.

6

Cleaning : particle cleaning before delivery; ISO 9001:2015.

Frequently asked questions about deep drawing stainless steel

What stainless steel thicknesses can you deep-draw?

From 0.2 to 2 mm. Thin gauges are used for connector housings and sensor protection covers; thicker ones for sleeves and housings that must withstand pressure, shocks or vibrations.

Why deep-draw stainless steel rather than machine it?

A deep-drawn part is formed from a single sheet: no weld, no chips, far less wasted material. In series production, the cost per part is much lower than that of a part machined from solid, and the wall remains continuous, hence leak-tight.

What shapes can be produced?

Hollow parts: cups, sleeves, housings, caps, covers, with flanges, cut-outs and tabs made in the same transfer tool. The achievable depth depends on the diameter, the thickness and the shape: we study it on your drawing.

What do you need for a quotation?

Your drawing (PDF or 3D), the material, the thickness and the annual quantities. Our design office checks feasibility, suggests shape adjustments for deep drawing if needed, then quotes the tool and the part.

Do you work with other materials?

Yes: steels (DC04…), brass, aluminium, copper and zinc, on the same presses. See our deep drawing page.
